Just finished Rage on the PS3, can't recommend it enough. Great Art and Design matched with fantastic gunplay and items. These quick sketches were inspired by the game, trying to get faster/more confident with color. :)

Gouache and a little photoshop overlay work. Bubo from Clash of the Titans, the original.
Redesigned him a bit and went a little crazy with the brushwork, fun speed painting. The second image is the painting unaltered, It was fun to get messy again.

Over the summer I got the chance to work with the talented folks at Create in Culver, I painted a handful of mattes for the story cinematic sequences for the new Twisted Metal with a great team of artists. I can't show the mattes just yet, but more to come soon. :)

Comic Con panel with the man, David Jaffe. The game looks really fun and I had the chance to work with a great team of artists and supes at Create. Footage has the trailer we made for Comic Con, some of my matte paintings are up in this. :)

It's a Comic Con panel, please excuse the hooting and hollering. :)

Big shout out to the gang at Create, keep up the awesome work and I can't wait to pick this game up day one.

I worked on the Wonder Woman pilot a bit ago, this sketch was just a 30 minute doodle for the team that was putting it all together. I'm getting into this graphic style a bit more, it makes everything look very confident.

Fringe 3.19 LSD Concept and Matte Art

Here is some of the artwork I created for the animated episode of Fringe. A Big shout out to the team at Zoic, this ambitious episode had a great group of illustrators hard at work for the show; Jeremy, Jared, JDL, Alex, Joe,Wayne, Fred and the guys really pushed out some amazing artwork. I took on the character designs, as well as a variety of matte illustrations for the backgrounds. Also, I got a chance to try out hand roto work for this show, a process that requires detail drawings over many of the frames of cg animation to embellish the efforts of our animation and comp team. I learned a lot and worked with some fantastic artists, I can't wait to do it again. :)

Hello!

These are the first of many pieces created for The Saboteur (hits U.S. store shelves this Dec. 8th).
It was my pleasure to Concept alongside the many talented Artists and Engineers at our Studio; we had the unique opportunity to recreate a war torn and brutally occupied 1940's Paris painted in the Film Noir tradition; resulting in a harsh yet alluring Black and White representation of the world. I had the great fortune to work very closely building these environments with our Design and World Building Leads, Tom and Erik respectively, and through this process we've created some of the most detailed and referentially dense final art I've seen in a game.

Along with environments, Concept got to take a shot at lending a hand to our in game User Interface-providing artwork for the perks and economy systems. This opportunity to help out lead to our Concept group contributing greatly to the final product. it was a blast to see this vision through with a whole lot of style from beginning to end.

Lastly, our Concept team had a great time adding to the wonderful marketing initiative headed by our internal marketing group. Creating promotional images for the San Diego Comic Con 09, print features in Playboy: Girls of Gaming issue 2009 and many others. If you haven't gotten and chance to take a peek, swing by Jason Hazelroth's blog for a feast for the eyes. His efforts for showcasing the action to be had in The Saboteur are exciting illustrations that I'm sure will make your desktops a lot happier :)

After seeing Rodney, Mindy pimp on their DS's I figure it was time I try something a little more "meaty". The Colors site has a great gallery feature where it does the playback just like the DS...

Trying something new :)
Using color on the brush filters to color over value, seems to do the job.
The boat scene was a fun 20 min exercise, gonna try and do some more in this vein.

Here are some samples of some of my journal work. I tend to keep this to myself but recently have been asked to pimp it some in the new Lang Magazine in Detroit. So here is an assemblage of some personal stuff :P. I think keeping a journal is a good habit, either to jot down whats on your mind or even to cope from time to time. Hope you get a kick out of it.

a quick study from a Steve Huston sketch. this study is two fold, 1) i have to do this more often (and will) and 2) i needed to learn what art rage was good for (art rage is a program that fakes oils really really well, and its free-ish). i'm gonna go through my Huston file and do some more studies this weekend, some backs and knees and hands and, and, and... i'm pretty excited about it actually :D

edit2: the girl images above are from hong ly's photo stock on characterdesigns.com. a great resource, especially if you put the viewer on slideshow and on a timer so its a gesture fiesta!

this is kind of an ominous sea sub sketch, soon to be fleshed out painting. i've put about an hour into it, maybe less but i think its ready for some serious attention.

some quick ones that i sweetend up, half hour on the first, 45 mins on the second and third.
i'm getting used to playing with values in a painting and learning that my values seem to be more grey initially. so using levels to get it juicy is making me a lot faster at getting colors that work and making me want to make colors to skip that part. nice to play around :D

lets see, i kinda felt like doing a cute one today, something just fun to look at i guess. besides, everyone loves balloons! this one was about 45 mins to an hour, i'm just trying to get faster at this. the second painting was done in 15 mins or so, just to practice value and composition, i would probably explore a better angle for a full color pass at this but i get the elements in this one. well kids, thanks for playing :D

i was surprised that i didn't post this as my introduction cause this is a coverspread for a little story i'm developing. lots to do with mod culture, the 60's (67-69), quadrifinia, the who, and a chase sequence! so its an oldie, but it looks too fun not to have up :D hopefully i get around to making the rest of the vespa gang.

here is a study i did the other day. wanted to do more of them but time is short these days. about an hour or less of fun time with this gal, the photo i had as referance was quite nice and helped me move alot quicker. hopefully more to come, cause this stuff is exciting to me. maybe something with flowers or goonies inspired next.

Here is a post in progress, I’m doing a bunch of thumbs based on art I like and stuff I wanted to do that wasn't work related. These are fun little guys and done in an hour and 2 for the boat cause I can't make up my mind (the latest version has flying whales now "me'n flying whales parted ways a long time ago, you see they burnt down my village").

Well anywho, more to come if I can squirrel away more time for this cool* type a stuff.

*cool and all things kinda cool are subject to change on artistic whims and tantrums thereof. So what is cool today absolutely doesn’t have to be cool tomorrow, ya dig.
